Abstract:
This paper demonstrates that the Granger-causality tests are not affected by an accounting identity relationship. In the context of exports and economic growth relationship, this amounts to saying that if a Granger-causal relationship from exports to output is detected, this cannot be due to a built-in accounting identity relationship.
