The effects of population size and age structure on innovative output: an empirical note

Dierk Herzer

Applied Economics Letters, 2020, vol. 27, issue 10, 854-858

Abstract: This note examines the effects of population size and age structure on innovative output. Employing panel data for 22 countries over the period from 1996 to 2015, it is found that population size has no statistically significant effect on innovative output. In contrast, changes in the age structure of the population are significantly associated with changes in innovative activity.
