Applied Economics Letters, 2025, vol. 32, issue 5, 592-595

Abstract: In the era of VUCA, research on the impact of second-generation involvement on family business value has attracted much attention, there is a lack of related discussion. Based on a sample of 514 Chinese listed family companies from 2018 to 2022, this study shows that second-generation involvement is positively correlated with firm value, and ESG performance plays a moderating role in this relationship. Notably, the impact of second-generation involvement is more pronounced in enterprises operating in highly competitive industries. The paper offers countermeasures for family enterprises to optimize second-generation involvement and ESG performance, and eventually enhance firm value and promote the sustainable development.
