Abstract:
Using the CFPS, we estimate the effects of the number of children on parental happiness in China. OLS results show that an increase in the number of children has significant negative effects on parental happiness. When endogeneity is considered, the results from 2SLS show a substantial increase in negative effects. Two robustness tests also suggest that the negative effects are significant. The mechanism check shows that the number of children may affect parental happiness in different ways.
