An empirical assessment on alternative functional forms of the Lorenz curve

Abstract:
Different parametric Lorenz curves are estimated and evaluated using household survey data from rural China. None of them, however, is found to yield an adequate description of income distributions. Thus, new and better functional forms are called for, despite the fact that many already exist in the literature.
