Abstract:
COVID-19 exacerbated psychosocial health problems. Rural tourism appears to be a beneficial healing product. However, little research has been conducted on the healing effects of rural tourism. This study explored the underlying dimensions and the overall healing process of rural tourism therapeutic experiences. Thematic analysis methodologies were designed based on in-depth interviews (N = 25). The entire healing process was identified as follows: respondents’ physical and psychological states shifted from imbalance (pre-travel) to balance (on travel) to the sustainability of healing (post-travel). Moreover, this study constructed a rural tourism therapeutic experience system that includes body, emotion, cognition, and therapeutic landscapes. In this system, the body and emotions interact with therapeutic landscapes to shape the physical and psychological therapeutic experiences. This study offers practical value for recovering stressed-out populations, as well as for those who create and promote rural tourism destinations.
