Abstract:
A model is presented for analysing the subcontractor's risk elements in construction refurbishment projects. The system is based on the use of fuzzy set theory with the fuzzy set representing the overall weighted average rating of refurbishment contractors criterion for the selection of subcontractors. A prototype knowledge based expert system is described, which provides a systematic and objective approach to the selection of subcontractors. Knowledge elicitation methodology using the 'repertory grid' technique is detailed. The implementation of a subcontractor selection and appointment Model for refurbishment contractors (SSARC) in linguistic terms allows the user to interact with the system in a very friendly manner using natural language expressions.
