Planning practice and the planning profession in Mexico

Abstract: This article addresses the following question what do Mexican planners do? The analysis of planning practice in this article is based on a survey of 141 planning practitioners in Mexico. The findings suggest that practice is still embedded in the institutionalized mode of technical rational planning and unable to deal with the ‘stubborn realities’ of urban and social inequities that are part of a historical legacy or path dependency that is difficult to change.
