Finding a Way Forward: an agenda for research

Derek Hall and Frances Brown

Third World Quarterly, 2008, vol. 29, issue 5, 1021-1032

Abstract: This concluding paper examines issues that are seen as important for the future of tourism by drawing on key themes from the collection making up this special issue on tourism and development in the global South. Building on these, and noting some of the contradictions apparent in attempts to use tourism as an aid to development, it goes on to focus on ethics and responsibility, and education and training. As essential elements of both research and action agendas for this rapidly emerging and changing field, these should both be a priority for the future.
