Introduction to the Special Issue ‘Spend More and Better’

Cind Du Bois and Caroline Buts

Defence and Peace Economics, 2024, vol. 35, issue 4, 401-403

Abstract: While the publication of the European Union’s Strategic Compass was planned before the Russian invasion in Ukraine, the war clearly impacted its interpretation and roll-out. The strategic document requires not only that the member states increase their defence spending but that they also increase the efficiency of their spending. This special issue addresses this call for more and better defence spending in the EU from different perspectives.
