Abstract:
This introduction provides an overview of the special issue dedicated to Risk, Uncertainty, and Democracy, drawing particular attention to how risk exposure is correlated to social and economic positions and the power relations that impede the democratic management of risk. It also provides a survey of individual contributions to the special issue on topics including the history of financial markets, risk allocations in the workplace, insurance, mathematical modeling, Artificial Intelligence, planetary risks, and attempts to manage social risk through ‘nudging’ and other behavioral interventions.
