A skirmish in the Popper Wars: Hutchison versus Caldwell on Hayek, Popper, Mises, and methodology

Bruce Caldwell

Journal of Economic Methodology, 2009, vol. 16, issue 3, 315-324

Abstract: The paper is a reminiscence of T.W. Hutchison by way of a retrospective view of our debate over the relationship between the ideas of Karl Popper, F. A. Hayek, and Ludwig von Mises on methodology. Our dispute was part of a larger debate over the relevance of Popper's thought for economic methodology. Its place within the larger debate is also explored.
