Deliver on Sunday? Analysis of Daily Newspapers' Entry to Sunday Edition Publishing

W. Wayne Fu

Journal of Media Economics, 2003, vol. 16, issue 3, 189-205

Abstract: This article explores the economic factors that influence the decision of a U.S. nonmetropolitan daily newspaper to publish or not publish on Sunday. Probit and Tobit models are employed to analyze the entry of 213 small and medium-sized dailies in the Midwestern states into the Sunday-edition market. Variables of market characteristics and those related to inbound circulation penetration yield significant impact.
