Abstract:
In this addendum, we revisit our previous claim regarding the non existence of optimal covariate allocations for a non-Youden-type layout of a symmetric balanced incomplete block design (SBIBD) with parameters (7, 7, 4, 4, 2) in the presence of left- and right-neighbor effects (NEs). The study initially aimed to verify the claim through an exhaustive examination of 243 possible cases and subcases. To our surprise, among all the cases analyzed, we identified exactly one optimal covariate allocation, contradicting our original assertion. This unexpected discovery compels us to revise our conclusion and acknowledge the existence of an optimal covariate design within a non-Youden-type layout. We present this addendum as a rectification, recognizing the evolving nature of statistical inquiry in experimental design.
