Abstract: While prior research has recognised the significance of tourism fatigue, there exists limited empirical evidence regarding its causes and consequences. Drawing upon the stressor-strain-outcome framework, this study investigates the main antecedents and outcomes by constructing a research model of tourism fatigue. This study utilises two waves of cross-sectional data sets from two distinct destinations (i.e. nature-based and culture-based destinations). Findings suggest that travel frequency significantly influences tourism fatigue, with a predominant impact on psychological fatigue, while duration primarily affects physical fatigue in both destination types. It is also observed that physical fatigue exacerbates psychological fatigue. Tourist satisfaction is notably affected by psychological fatigue, but the effects of tourism fatigue on revisit intentions vary according to the specific travel context. Theoretical and managerial implications are also discussed.
