Current Issues in Tourism, 2025, vol. 28, issue 18, 2948-2968

Abstract: Evaluating a country’s tourism performance using different indicators and analysis methods is an important issue in strategic decision-making. In this regard, the main purpose of the study is to examine the tourism performances of OECD countries through macro tourism variables. In the research, data from 25 OECD countries for the period 2011–2020 were analysed in two periods. The intuitionistic fuzzy Entropy (IFEntropy) method was used to weigh the importance levels of the evaluation criteria. In evaluating the tourism performances, the extended intuitionistic fuzzy TOPSIS (EIFTOPSIS) and intuitionistic fuzzy CRADIS (IFCRADIS) methods were preferred. In addition, to look at the research from a different perspective, the tourism productivity of the sample countries was measured by data envelopment analysis. According to the results of the intuitionistic methods used, the 3 countries with the best tourism performance were determined as Spain, France, and Italy, respectively, and the 3 countries with the lowest performance scores were determined as Lithuania, Latvia, and Slovakia, respectively. It is understood from the results of data envelopment analysis that countries with high tourism performance cannot show the same success in the efficient use of macro tourism resources. The results obtained in the study are expected to guide decision-makers and contribute to the literature.
