Encrypted futures: what lies ahead in the global security debates

Abstract:
Recent news stories regarding the use of encrypted platforms have re-opened long-standing debates regarding law enforcement’s access to encrypted data in the course of its investigations. Recent global developments have seen new approaches pursued by governments to compel companies to provide access to encrypted data and continued concerns raised about the national security and privacy implications of such actions. Moving forward, there are a number of predictions that can be offered about how these debates will play out on the global stage and how technology companies will respond to the continued demands of governments.
