Abstract: FIELDHOUSE E. A. (1996) Putting unemployment in its place: using the Samples of Anonymized Records to explore the risk of unemployment in Great Britain in 1991, Reg. Studies 30, 119-133. Both '(w)here you live and what you do (or did) for a living became increasingly important in the 1980s' in relation to the propensity to unemployment (McLaughlin, 1992). However, relatively little work has actually combined these different elements, in particular the interrelationship between the sociology of unemployment and the geography of unemployment. The Samples of Anonymized Records from the 1991 Census make it possible to identify and unravel economic, social and geographical factors affecting the risk of unemployment. This paper provides a detailed examination of the differences in the relative propensity to unemployment amongst different social groups and geographical areas. Standard Census output is employed at the area level to explore the relationship between the risk of unemployment and the local economic and social context. FIELDHOUSE E. A. Les echantillons de dossiers anonymes provenant du recensement de 1991 permettent de distinguer et de demeler les facteurs economiques, sociaux et geographiques qui influent sur le risque de chomage. Cet article fournit un examen detaille des differences du risque relatif de chomage parmi divers groupes sociaux et zones geographiques. On se sert de la sortie type du recensement sur le plan local afin d'examiner le rapport entre le risque de chomage et le contexte economique et social local. FIELDHOUSE E. A. Es sind jedoch relativ wenig Arbeiten uber den tatsachlichen Zusammenhang dieser verschieden Elemente, besonders der Verknupfung der Soziologie der Erwerbslosigkeit und Geographie der Ewerbslosigkeit erschienen. Die Stichproben der anonymisierten Daten der Volkszahlung des Jahres 1991 gestatten, wirtschaftliche, gesellschaftliche und geographische Faktoren, die sich auf die Gefahr der Erwebslosigkeit auswirken, zu identifizieren und zu entwirren. Der Aufsatz liefert eine ins Einzelne gehende Untersuchung der Unterschiede in der relativen Tendenz zu Erwebslosigkeit in verschiedenen Gesellschaftsgruppen und geographischen Gebieten. Es werden Volkszahlungsstandardoutputs auf Gebietsebene benutzt, um die Beziehung zwischen der gefahr der Arbeitslosigkeit und dem ortlichen wirtschaftlichen und gessellschaftlichen Zusammenhang zu untersuchen.
