Abstract: TUROK I. (1997) Linkages in the Scottish electronics industry: further evidence, Reg. Studies 31, 705-711. McCann's response to my recent paper raises several technical reservations about my analysis of official production statistics, which turn out to be rather minor. He also challenges my interpretation of a wide range of empirical evidence to argue that local linkages are much stronger than I suggested. In fact his own analysis of the data is inadequate and his positive conclusions lack foundation in the light of historical and recent evidence. La reponse de McCann a mon article recent souleve plusieurs doutes d'ordre technique concernant mon analyse des statistiques officielles relatives a la production qui s'averent plutot secondaires. En plus, il met en question mon interpretation d'une forte accumulation de preuves empiriques, en affirmant que les liens locaux sont plus etroits que je n'avais propose. En fait, sa propre analyse des donnees est insuffisante et ses conclusions positives sont denuees de tout fondement a la lumiere des preuves historiques et recentes. TUROK I. McCanns Erwiderungen auf mein vor kurzem vero¨ffentlichtes Referat erhebt mehrere technische Einwa¨nde gegen meine Analyse offizieller Produktionsstatisken, die sich als ziemlich belanglos erweisen. Er zweifelt auch meine Interpretation sehr umfangreicher empirischer Beweise an, um die Behauptung aufzustellen, dass Verknu¨pfungen am Orte viel sta¨rker sind als ich gesagt hatte. Tatsa¨chlich aber ist seine Datenanalyse ungenu¨gend, und im Lichte historischer und ju¨ngster Beweise mangelt es seinen positiven Schlussfolgerungen an Begru¨ndung.
