Historically, labour migration has been an important component of aggregate longer distance population movements in Spain. This paper provides some new insights into the volume, age composition and geographical pattern of migration between provinces of those of working age in 1988 and 1994 based on annual registration data. Migration efficiencies are used to indicate that net migration is becoming less important as a mechanism for redistributing the population overall, although age-specific efficiencies vary geographically. Age selectivity is examined using five-year age groups to exemplify migration trends in particular provinces, and three broad age groups to contrast the different geographical dynamics of interprovincial migration for young, mid and older working age migrants. The paper quantifies the importance of return migration in Spain in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Gest�tzt auf j�hrlich zusammengestellte Registrierungsdaten vermittelt dieser Aufsatz neue Einblicke in Umfang, Alterszusammensetzung und geographische Wanderungsmuster von Personen im Arbeitsalter, die in den Jahren 1988 und 1994 von einer Provinz zur andern wechselten. Wanderleistungen wurden dazu benutzt, aufzuzeigen, daß Nettowanderung als Mechanismus zur Umverteilung der Gesamtbev�lkerung stark an Bedeutung verloren hat, obschon altersspezifische Leistungen geographisch große Unterschiede aufweisen. Altersselektivit�t wird auf der Grundlage von F�nfjahresalterskohorten untersucht, um Wanderungstendenzen in bestimmten Provinzen zu veranschaulichen, und von drei breiten Altersgruppen, um die unterschiedliche geographische Dynamik interprovinzialer Wanderung f�r j�ngere, mittlere und �ltere Wanderer im Arbeitsalter gegen�berzustel len. Der Aufsatz quantifiziert die Bedeutung der R�ckwanderung in Spanien gegen Ende der achtziger und anfangs der neunziger Jahre. Die Untersuchung stellt Teil eines vom ESRC finanzierten Projekts �ber Binnenwanderung und regionale Bev�lkerungsdynamik dar.
