This paper uses the network perspective to examine the role of interpersonal (relationships between individuals) and inter-organizational (relationships between organizations) networks in an industrial district. The embedded case method is used for this qualitative study of the Auckland boat-building district. The findings provide evidence of different types of networks, as well as how interpersonal networks can be transformed into inter-organizational networks, and vice versa, thus strengthening the district. Despite their initial reluctance to collaborate, organizations learnt to maintain a balance between 'competition' and 'cooperation'. [image omitted] Chetty S. et Agndal H. Pour mener a bien cette etude qualitative du district du chantier de construction de bateaux a Auckland, on emploie la methode d'enchassement. Les resultats fournissent des preuves non seulement de la presence de reseaux differents, mais aussi de la maniere dont on peut transformer des reseaux de communication en reseaux d'organisation, et vice versa, ainsi consolidant le district. Malgre qu'elles s'averent peu disposees a collaborer dans un premier temps, les organisations apprennent a tenir en equilibre 'la competition' et la 'cooperation'. In diesem Beitrag wird die Rolle der interpersonellen Netzwerke (Beziehungen zwischen Einzelpersonen) und der interorganisationellen Netzwerke (Beziehungen zwischen Organisationen) in einem Industriebezirk aus einer Netzwerksperspektive untersucht. Fur diese qualitative Studie des Bootsbaubezirks von Auckland wird die eingebettete Fallmethode verwendet. Die Ergebnisse lassen darauf schliessen, dass verschiedene Arten von Netzwerken vorhanden sind und dass aus interpersonellen Netzwerken interorganisationelle Netzwerke entstehen konnen und umgekehrt, wodurch der Bezirk gestarkt wird. Obwohl sich die Organisationen anfangs gegen eine Zusammenarbeit straubten, lernten sie ein Gleichgewicht zwischen Wettbewerb und Zusammenarbeit zu bewahren. Para este estudio cualitativo sobre la construccion naval en la comarca de Auckland hemos utilizado el metodo de casos arraigados. Los resultados demuestran que existen diferentes tipos de redes y que las redes interpersonales pueden convertirse en redes interorganizativas y viceversa de modo que se fortalece la comarca. Pese a su primera resistencia a colaborar, las organizaciones aprendieron a mantener un equilibrio entre 'competencia' y 'colaboracion'.
