The Review of Faith & International Affairs, 2025, vol. 23, issue 3, 16-25
Abstract:
This essay examines the complex interplay between technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI), and human dignity through Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. It highlights how technological advancements have significantly improved fundamental human needs like physiological well-being, safety, and health, fostering dignity globally. However, the paper also analyzes technology’s risks, including loneliness, misinformation, privacy breaches, and amplified societal biases and inequalities. It concludes that realizing technology’s full potential for improving human dignity necessitates a balanced approach, stressing robust regulations, healthy communities (including faith communities), addressing wealth disparities, and prioritizing ethical development in all technological innovation.
