The Revival of the UAE–Saudi Arabia Border Dispute in the 21 Century

Abstract: The revival of the UAE-Saudi border disputes in the 21st century brings together new scholarship to challenge perceived paradigms, which were often dominated by scholars’ assumptions about the Treaty of Jeddah having ended the disputes. The past decade has witnessed a change in the political profile of the disputes. This paper addresses this change by tracing developments concerning the boundary question after the signing of the Treaty of Jeddah, and then by examining the treaty’s articles, in particular those relevant to the revival of the border dispute in 2004.
