Familiarity Bias and the Status Quo Alternative

Michael Seiler (), Vicky Seiler, Stefan Traub and David Harrison

Journal of Housing Research, 2008, vol. 17, issue 2, 139-154

Abstract: This study empirically examines familiarity bias in a residential real estate context. The results confirm the status quo deviation aversion hypothesis and to a lesser extent the increasing status quo deviation aversion hypothesis. Familiarity bias is strongest at the country level and least pronounced in the Asian population, while North Americans and females tend to experience it the most.
