Note: A Call for Research Into Low-Income Housing’s Growing Insurance Problem

Jeffrey G. Robert

Journal of Housing Research, 2022, vol. 31, issue 2, 241-246

Abstract: Housing affordability continues to capture national attention with housing shortages estimated to persist in the coming years. This article presents a new barrier to housing affordability by connecting recent predictive analytics techniques in the insurance industry to general liability insurance for low-income housing. Specifically, this article seeks to broaden awareness and serves as a call for more empirical research into the impact of crime score modeling on low-income housing supply, land values, operating costs, and resident services.
