Abstract:
The aim of the present study was to identify the main variables that affect performance depending on their situation, defeat or victory, in the elite women’s volleyball. One hundred and two games (n=102) who carried out the 24 participating teams were analyzed through the Volleyball Information System (VIS) from the Volleyball World Championships 2014 celebrated in Italy. The discriminating function was used to identify the discriminating variables, using a canonical structuring coefficient of |SC| ≥.30. The results related to the victories were serve hits SC=|0.83|, excellent reception SC=|0.66|, Serve reception SC=|0.74| and Opponent Serve errors SC=|-0.34| and Serve faults SC=|-0.30| were associated with defeats. The results demonstrated the importance of including a priority job of serve-receive in coaching elite volleyball teams.
