Performance and Compensation on the LPGA Tour: A Statistical Analysis

Abstract: This paper investigates the determinants of player performance as measured by scoring average and earnings on the United States LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tour for the 2004 season. Among other findings, this research shows that the percentage of greens reached in regulation and putts per round are by far the most important determinants of both scoring average and earnings on the LPGA tour. Driving distance and driving accuracy are found to be equally important factors in success on the LPGA tour.
