Inequality, Unemployment and Wage-Setting Institutions in South Africa

N Nattrass

Studies in Economics and Econometrics, 2000, vol. 24, issue 3, 129-141

Abstract: This paper provides a brief review of inequality in the South African labour market and then turns to a discussion of South Africa’s wage-setting machinery. It is argued that the extension of bargaining council agreements to non-parties may well act to retard the growth of smaller, more labour-intensive firms.
