Cloud computing in bridging the digital divide: transforming hospital information system in the Yangtze Delta region

Abstract:
Cloud computing (CC) is playing a vital role in enhancing health information system (HIS), and this trend is expected to accelerate in worldwide emergencies. By effectively utilising CC, it is easy to collect patients’ data, segregate diseases by region, and improve the decision-making system. Moreover, analysing the factors that affect the level of satisfaction of healthcare professionals (HCP’s) is essential for boosting operational efficiency in the HIS. Therefore, in our study, we observe the factors influencing ISQ (Information & Service Quality), HCP’s satisfaction, and the impact of operational effectiveness (OPE), on the intention to adopt CC-HIS. Data for our cross-sectional study was collected in 2022 from 320 on-duty HCP’s in the Yangtze River Delta region, China, using an online questionnaire. The findings reveal that OPE has a significant positive impact, whereas information quality (INFQ) has a significant yet negative impact on HCP’s intention to adopt CC-HIS. Interestingly, while service quality (SERQ) does not directly influence HCP’s intention to adopt CC-HIS, it does have an indirect impact. Lastly, our findings suggest that healthcare authorities should focus on improving the ISQ of CC-HIS and make strategic plans to ensure OPE by improving operational cost, quality, reliability, flexibility, and speed.
