Abstract: Based on spectral domain method, an asymptotic solution of the electromagnetic scattering from a biaxial electric anisotropic (BEA) slab with a perfect electric conductor (PEC) substrate is proposed. Firstly, the spectral formulas of two types of waves with different phase velocities existing in the BEA slab are proposed. Then the boundary conditions at the top and bottom interfaces of the BEA slab are employed to determine the complex amplitudes of the scattered fields in spectral domain. By means of saddle point technique, the scattered fields in space domain are asymptotically solved out, which degrade to the reflected fields. The asymptotic solution is validated by the comparisons between the numerical results from the proposed solution and Titchener’s method. Employing the asymptotic solution, the evaluation of the scattering from an electrically large and complex PEC target coated with a BEA layer is realized.
