Abstract:
We propose a general theoretical solution by transforming to the loss problem of transformation media complex coordinates. In particular, this universal schematic has been demonstrated by two design examples of a loss compensated invisibility cloak and a loss compensated superlens with simple material parameters and structures. In such designs, the gain materials, which amplify the wave as opposed to the traditional lossy materials, are properly manipulated so as to compensate the inherent loss. The complex transformation method proposed here paves an effective path of addressing the inevitable loss problem in general transformational optical devices.
