Planar omnidirectional tag antenna for UHF RFID system

Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications, 2013, vol. 27, issue 7, 901-910

Abstract: A novel design of planar omnidirectional tag antenna for ultra high frequency (UHF) radio frequency identification (RFID) is proposed. With the use of a square loop accompanying dual dipole strips, the measured half-power bandwidth of the proposed broadband tag antenna can reach 143 MHz (857–1000 MHz), which includes the entire operating bandwidth for worldwide UHF RFID system. Meanwhile, with omnidirectional reading pattern, the measured reading distance is about 11.0 m as it is mounted on the carton. Good tag sensitivity was obtained across the desired frequency band.
