Abstract:
By attaching a C-shaped parasitic monopole strip on the backside of the antenna, a novel compact eight-band monopole antenna (MA) is proposed and embedded in the LTE/WWAN tablet computer. The operating impedance bandwidths of 264/997 MHz can be obtained across the LTE/WWAN bands, respectively. Given that the overall antenna size is only 35 × 10 × 0.8 mm3, the proposed planar MA provides more than 22% reduction in antenna size over that of the conventional ones. Meanwhile, this small-size MA provides the measured peak gains and antenna efficiencies of 2.0/3.2 dBi and 60/66% for the LTE/WWAN bands, respectively. Additionally, to fulfill the limitation of 1.6 W/kg of the 1-g body specific absorption rate (SAR) requirement for mobile device applications, the proposed planar compact MA is deposited inside the tablet computer for the study of radiating performance.
