Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications, 2020, vol. 34, issue 6, 774-788

Abstract: In this paper, the electromagnetic fields of a horizontal infinitely long wire source buried in a three-layered medium are studied. The source and the observation points are located in the middle region. The expressions of the electromagnetic waves are more complex because of the multiple reflections from the up and down boundaries. The electromagnetic field components between the two boundaries are given, and the trapped surface waves and lateral waves along the two boundaries are computed. The analysis and computations have some practical applications in the line sources buried in the earth or cements.
