Abstract:
Inductive Output Tube (IOT) has emerged as a promising new class of high-power microwave devices with many industrial and scientific applications. In recent years, significant advancements have been made in the design of input cavities to expand their applications, utilizing their unique properties such as high efficiency, linearity, reliability, and compact size. This review paper covers various aspects of input cavity in an IOT, including the use of advanced electromagnetic (EM) simulations achieving multi-beam, multi-mode, and wideband operations. This paper identifies current challenges, present state-of-the-art, and future directions in input cavity design for IOTs. Additionally, this paper emphasizes the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to deal with the complex design of input cavity for high-power IOTs.
