Abstract:
Photonic crystals (PCs) are widely used in mode competition suppression in traveling wave tubes (TWTs). In this paper, a one-dimensional (1D) PC-loaded folded waveguide (FW) TWT called PCFW-TWT is designed and simulated. The transmission characteristics of the PCFW-TWT show the frequency-selective properties of the 1D PC. Particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation results show that the oscillation caused by high-order modes in the conventional FW-TWT is well suppressed in the PCFW-TWT. Meanwhile, compared with the two-dimensional (2D) PC, the 1D PC based on alternating dielectrics is easier to fabricate, which is more achievable in practical applications.
