Abstract:
This research study aims to explore the success factors of small businesses that expanded abroad during their early stages and sustained their international high growth, also known as early internationalizing firms (EIFs). We highlight the lack of research on the factors that influence EIFs’ international high growth and the path that these companies have taken. Our findings reveal the existence of two feedback loops, one related to international commercial intensity, and the other to international expansion. Additionally, we propose an integrative model that explains how these specific firms internationalize. Finally, we provide managers with key recommendations regarding human resources management during EIFs’ international high-growth trajectory, as well as some suggestions to ensure organizational planning and agility.
