The International Student Perspective: International Reflections on Educational Programs

Abstract: Students from three of the top-scoring nations in the Third International Math and Science Study who are currently pursuing degrees at an American university were interviewed for their perspectives on their educational experiences. The three students discussed the emphasis on academic excellence in schools in their home countries, but pointed out their perceptions that American and international schools tend toprovide more opportunities for students to express their individuality. Each of the students recommended that schools in all the nations discussed develop a more balanced approach, reflecting high academic standards yet encouraging individuality and creativity.
