Abstract:
The goal of this study is to analyze the evolution of salaries three years after the implementation of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) in Mexico’s automotive industry (MAI) using a quantitative and descriptive methodology. The results show that the average salaries in Mexico’s automotive industry increased from 50 to 54.8 pesos per hour between 2019 and 2021, and to 58.5 pesos per hour in 2022. This represents an annual increase of 3.8% and a cumulative increase of 11.5%. Despite this growth, the wage gap between the MAI and the automotive industries in the United States and Canada has not been reduced.
