Effects of fundamentals of culture on teacher-student relationship: A quantitative correlation study

Abstract: Public school districts in the United States have become increasingly aware of the problem of access and equity in education as they adjust to changes in demographics and cultural backgrounds of the student population. This quantitative correlation study examined how teacher-student relationships could be strengthened if we knew what impacted the cultural background of middle school teachers. A multiple linear regression analysis revealed the relationship between teacher-student relationship and predictor variables related to cultural background of teachers. The analysis explored teacher-student relationship as measured by self-reporting of 81 middle school teachers and resulted in a significant relationship among predictor variables and teacher-student relationship. The study revealed challenges of ensuring an equitable teaching environment in middle schools and contributed to understanding the impact of cultural background of teachers on teacher-student relationship.
