Abstract:
Flooding in the Tonhar residential area is caused by overflow of the Rimba River, triggered by channel constrictions at road bridges and downstream sections, as well as additional discharge from airport drainage that cannot be accommodated due to the gentle river slope, resulting in backwater effects. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Syamsudin Noor Retention Basin in reducing peak flood discharge and improving water availability. Flood discharge analysis was conducted using several methods, with the Nakayasu Synthetic Unit Hydrograph (SUH) as the priority method for return periods of 2–100 years, while dependable discharge analysis was performed using the FJ Mock method. The results indicate that the retention basin is effective in transforming aggressive inflow into more stable outflow through flood routing, achieving a peak discharge reduction of 40.131% and a peak time delay of 187.5% for the 5-year return period. These findings demonstrate that the Syamsudin Noor Retention Basin is effective both as a flood control structure.
