Abstract: The financial crisis has revealed that public authorities do not have adequate solutions to handle distressed banks in the globalized markets of our days. This is a serious problem that has implications to the financial stability. The paper analyses the present and the future possible solutions and frameworks for preventing banking crises and saving banks that could have problems. Also, we analyse the capital adequacy in the Romanian banking system compared to the European banking system.
