Abstract: Experts in economics tried to explain the upwards and downwards economic movements. They also tried to find answers to what causes the economic cycles. The recent crisis has proved to be atypical. Starting off as a financial crisis, it later evolved into an economic crisis and ultimately turned into a sovereign debt crisis. This is the form in which it still manifests itself at the time being. This crisis has not even spared Romania, generating a long recession with multiple effects amongst the economy and the businesses. Until now, anti-crisis measures were directed against the population by reducing its revenues. This led to a decrease in domestic demand. This paper summarizes the developments of the crisis in Romania and worldwide, trying to highlight that the strategic measures which ought to be considered are those that restore domestic demand. This request must be healthy, sustainable, a base of further economic growth.
