CHINA'S RISE AND U.S.- CHINESE TENSION

Abstract: This paper studies the issue of China's Rise and the frictions with the U.S. as the PRC tries to get hegemon status in South-East Asia. The key issue lies with China's foreign policy towards developing countries and securing raw materials needed for the high economic demand and the U.S. policy of containing China. As China continues to grow and to invest more in its military capabilities, its neighbors question its peaceful rise, however socials issues might put a dent in the PRC's plans for regional domination as economic growth slows and China has to shift its policies. This paper argues that the tensions between the U.S. and China could not be considered as high as the tensions between the Soviet Union and the U.S. during the cold war.
