Abstract:
In this paper we try to investigate the effect of the Structural Funds on regional development and the economic and social disparities within the EU. The year 1988, with the first main reform of the Structural Funds, is taken as the starting point of our research that covers the past thirteen years. Despite the fact that the assessment of the EU structural intervention is a very difficult and complex task, we conclude that the impact of the Structural Funds in terms of growth and efficiency is still limited.
