LES NORMES FONDAMENTALES DU TRAVAIL ET LA CROISSANCE: VERS UNE NOUVELLE APPROCHE EN TERMES DE BIENS PUBLICS MONDIAUX

Region et Developpement, 2005, vol. 22, 105-132
Abstract:
The goal of this paper is to estimate the impact of labor standards on economic growth. We focus on the four core standards as recognized in the Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Right to Work (1998). We build a new synthetic indicator thanks to a Multiple Correspondence Analysis. And we estimate a "Labour Standards augmented Mankiw Romer and Weil model (1992)". The first results note that core labor standards have a positive impact on long-term income per capita, even for developing countries. We consider that the improvement of labor standards in developing countries constitutes a Global Public Good. Thus, the financing of these policies should be reconsidered.
