Abstract:
The concept of generosity is largely used in the literature on pension systems. However this concept is not really clarified and very different pension systems are qualified as generous. The purpose of our paper is twofold. First of all, we investigate the concept, the different uses made, highlighting its multidimensional aspect. Secondly, we build a new index to measure generosity, taking all the relevant dimensions into account. We compute this index for the Algerian, French, Moroccan, Tunisian and Turkish retirement systems. These systems are generally described as generous given usual indicators of generosity. The conclusions using our new index are more contrasted.
