Abul Hussam: Abul Hussam is a Professor of Chemistry at George Mason University and the inventor of the SONO filter. In 2007 Hussam was presented with the Grainger Challenge Gold Award of US$ 1 million for the SONO filter, and was named one of Time Magazine's Heroes of the Environment. In 2008 Hussam, originally from Bangladesh, received an "Outstanding American by Choice" certificate from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS); this certificate is awarded to naturalized US citizens who have made significant contributions to their community and the United States as a whole.
