Economic Roundup, 2005, issue 1, 45-67

Abstract: China’s economic rise is increasingly affecting East Asian growth and trade. This article discusses the changing patterns of the region’s trade and considers whether business cycles in East Asian economies have become more synchronised. We find that China’s main impact to date has been through its role in driving intra-regional trade but we are unable to identify the relative influence of China from the many other factors powering East Asian growth.
