Ukrainian Journal Ekonomist, 2013, issue 5, 58-61 Abstract: The article examines the state of political and economic situation in Azerbaijan. Special attention is paid to legal support of the economy, macroeconomic development and the role of the republic in the South Caucasus, in energy security of Europe, provides a rating of its competitiveness in the global economy. Based on years of statistics we evaluate the qualitative changes in socio-economic development of the country’s regions, paying special attention to the analysis of the main socio-economic indicators, investment maintenance of individual regions, highlighting the role of small, medium and large enterprises. A quantitative characterization of medium and large sites built and put into operation, according to the spheres of economic activity is given. Details of the new jobs by economic regions are given. We pay special attention to the development of industry and its innovation activities, we show the reasons of production remains. We note the importance of the development Concept «Azerbaijan – 2020: Outlook for the Future», the creation of the country's regional innovative areas and regional innovative programs in the sustainable socioeconomic development of the country regions by directions.
